Cash Register FAQ’s
While it makes it look like your cash register is displaying PEA, it is actually displaying PER. PER means Paper End Receipt, which means your paper roll has run out and the little sensor in the front of the receipt printer can’t detect any paper and will display PER until the paper roll is replaced. Once you replace the roll, press clear and this will clear the error.
If you have a fresh paper roll and the paper is fed correctly through the front and you still get the PEA error, you might have a broken sensor. The sensor can be cleaned with a lint free cloth. If that doesn’t work, then the whole printer mechanism may need replacing.
Even though the receipt function is on “off mode” you can still issue a receipt on request for the last individual sale by pressing ‘CASH’ directly after the transaction is finished. This method works on other Sam4s models as well.
On a Sam4S ER-180U, the receipt printer can be switched ON/OFF in REG Mode. All reports in X/Z Mode will still print even the receipt printer has been turned off. To switch receipt printer ON or OFF there is a RCPT ON/OFF key. ( Red Key Below)

To turn receipts off press RCPT ON/OFF once.
To turn receipt back on press RCPT ON/OFF only once again.
Thermal Rolls use heat to produce text or imaging. Thermal paper Rolls are very sensitive to heat and friction. Thermal Rolls have a glossy like top coat.
Bond Rolls require ribbon/ink to produce text and imaging. Bond paper has similar resemblance to standard copy paper.
Telling Bond and Thermal apart – To tell if you have Bond or Thermal paper, Scratch the top side of the roll with your fingernail, if a black mark is left – Then it is Thermal as it is reacting to the friction. If nothing appears it is Bond Paper.
When your Cash Register is displaying ‘Closed’ it is similar to “Logging Out’. To Log back onto the machine you enter the clerk number and then press the CLERK key.
1* → CLERK
*(Clerk number can be any number between 1-10)
